The Collingwood Industrial Magpies
Who are the Collingwood Industrial Magpies?

Established in 2003, the Collingwood Industrial Magpies (“CIMagpies”) has grown out of a small group of Collingwood supporters who share an occupational and professional affinity in the field of employment, workplace relations, labour law and human resource management. In addition to a passion for all things Collingwood, the group has a strong motivation to assist in national reconciliation of Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.

The principle objects of the group, as set out in the Rule of Incorporated Association, are to function solely as a charitable non-profit organisation that operates for the public benefit, to promote and advance throughout Australia the development and enjoyment of the sporting activities and culture of Indigenous Australians. The idea behind the group is to build on the shared sporting culture and sporting activities of Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. A love of Australian Rules Football and the Collingwood Football Club provides a unique link between the world of urban industrial relations practitioners, and the remote aboriginal community of Yuendumu, 300 km northwest of Alice Springs.

It is this shared ground, this common love of football and of Collingwood which provides the opportunity for the Collingwood Industrial Magpies to support, maintain and develop sporting activities in the Yuendumu community. Football and Collingwood also provide the opportunity to open a dialogue between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians promoting national reconciliation and developing greater mutual understanding and appreciation of respective cultures. By providing financial and moral support, as well as professional experience, the CIMagpies are well positioned to provide opportunities of training and development to empower Indigenous Australians.

The Directors Report in our Audited Financial Accounts for the year ended 2008 provide a summary of our Principal Activities during the last financial year. With your support we hope to build on this during 2009.
